On Thursday 30Th June 2022, we hosted a community conversation where we explored ideas of what a Community Health Champion looks like within our local communities, how we can identify key people to take up the role, and how we could support them in community activities. We launched a Community Health Champions fund, grants up to £10,000 available to community organisations running activities supporting communication of health and wellbeing messages in the district. This work is funded by the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities in relation to Covid-19 vaccinations. Our speakers reflected on the importance of community response over the pandemic and the commitment to work with our local groups to tackle vaccination uptake alongside other health issues.

The event was chaired and opened by Cllr Caroline Jackson, Leader of Lancaster City Council.

We heard from guest speakers:

  • Dr Sakthi Karunanithi – Director of Public Health, Lancashire County Council
  • Fiona Inston and Rachel Tyrrell-Smith - Lancaster City Council
  • Sharron Phillips – Lancaster District CVS
  • Sam Duckles and Sharon Duckles – Reflections Project run by Lancashire Youth Challenge and Marsh Community Centre

Following presentations from our speakers, we explored the questions below together.
