MyMainway is an exciting and ambitious project to improve the Mainway estate for all residents.

Built back in the 1960s, and refurbished in the 1990s, the 257 council homes on Mainway are reaching the point where they need significant investment to address maintenance issues and make them safe and secure for the future.

Doing nothing is not an option, and so the council, working with the Beyond Imagination team at Lancaster University, is exploring ways in which improvements could be made to the homes of all those living on Mainway.

An extensive consultation exercise has taken place to seek Tenant views through a range of events and other activities, with a clear picture emerging of a desire to retain a cohesive community at the Mainway location, to continue social housing at the location to achieve that, and therefore to support a significant renewal of the housing stock. 70% of the Tenants were in favour of change.

    Hello Brian, 

    It's not been totally decided how this will work yet. 

    Over the coming weeks the masterplan for the whole Mainway estate will be developed with residents and this will set out what work is going to take place. The masterplan should be finalised by spring 2023. This will help us understand which residents are affected by works, when, and for how long. 

    It's possible you will then have to bid for properties in order to vacate your home for works to take place, but not definite. We will give you plenty of notice either way. If you are required to bid for properties we will support you in doing this.

    Hello!
    A letter has gone out to all tenants and leaseholders this week which explains that if you are in Derby House or Lune House you may be directly affected by the forthcoming cabinet decision. If that is the case could you please email us a mymainway@lancaster.gov.uk for a chat about what this means for you.
    If you live elsewhere in the estate there is still nothing set in stone and there is nothing your landlord currently needs to do. All tenants and leaseholders will be given plenty of notice if and when this changes.

    We don't know. The project has been looking at every possible option, from refurbishment to a full redevelopment that could involve knocking down some current buildings in order to rebuild. So, the answer is, it's a possibility, but nothing has been decided yet.

    It's too early to say. As soon as the detail of the project starts taking shape we will talk about these things with all affected residents. Moving residents in and out will be a complicated task and we will be working a plan to do this with the minimum of disruption - where we can minimise the inconvenience we will do this as much as possible. Watch this space!
