What are you doing at home or in your workplace to help the environment?

Small changes can make a big difference if enough people get involved. If you have an idea for ways to reduce your carbon footprint or to improve the environment, why not share it here so other people can get involved? Or just have a read through other people's ideas for some inspiration. If you see an idea you like, give it a thumbs up!

    CO2 is essential to life

CO2 on Earth is currently about 400ppm that’s 0.04 % of the atmospheric gasses. It is historically very low. If it falls below 150 ppm everything will die. It has been as low as 180ppm previously so was very close. Life thrives at higher levels. Levels in the thousand ppm support much larger animals and plants (dinosaurs for example) and plants require much less water.

The garden village is a stupid idea

Lancaster city council has no right to call itself sustainable whilst advocating the additional suburban sprawl that your proposals represent. Though it's all cunningly disguised with an irritating greenwash name, I am not falling for it, and neither is anyone else I know. America is a prime example of how suburbia ruins cities, and we have enough ghettos in this country without my own city becoming yet another. There is universal consensus following years of academic research that cities with many suburbs are fatter, more deprived, more criminalised and less equal/equitable than cities which prohibit such sprawl. Urban living is just better, and the higher land values in the centres of Lancaster, Manchester, Leeds, Blackpool, and anywhere on the planet confirms it. People living in dense and vibrant urban communities are also way more productive, way more academically successful and way more likely to care about social issues. Denying such facts would make you appear like MAGA republicans. It is absolutely possible to provide more dense and economical housing in central locations where people want to live, and where we can walk or cycle our daily errands instead of driving a polluting car down congested highways or relying on expensive and unreliable buses, both of which would lower productivity and plunge our city into recession. Instead of further sabotaging our already-depleted ecosystem by turning our iconic surronds into a selfish concrete wasteland peppered by monocultural homogenous Mcmansions, the correct thing to do would be to demolish those crumbling Victorian piles and ugly, wasteful, traffic-inducing parking lots and create stylish high-rise urban developments offering compact and innovative dwellings in a heritage-friendly way, improving our great city's appearance and capitalising on our unspoilt and cared-for natural surrounds as a tangible local asset. The number of homes provided by a so-called "garden village" would be negligible, and such a development would be impractical and fragile. Don't kid yourselves, they would quickly become slums, and when an area has slums it has a ripple effect on how people perceive it. That style of development has been tried in many different countries and has failed in every single one of them. It is foolish of the UK to think it is special or different in any way, as Brexit has shown us.
