On Saturday 4th September 2021, a consultation day was held on Branksome estate to find out how local residents would like to use the ground floor flat, 60 Christie Avenue, as a Community Hub.

Residents came together to share their ideas and thoughts on what they would like from the community space.

Popular ideas included using the having an ICT room for people to use, but also for drop-ins from local services such as the NHS, CAB and Lancaster City Council. A youth space for recreation was also a popular idea, with ping-pong tables, board games and arts and crafts materials all being discussed. A hot topic that wasn't completely agreed on was the kitchen, with some people believing a microwave will suffice, but others believing that an oven would be more beneficial, as this would help with community cooking events and classes.

Young People unanimously asked for free wi-fi as did a number of adults. Some individuals felt that notice boards would be useful and that toys for smaller children would be needed. Young people also suggested CCTV cameras and an alarm for security as well as LED and disco lights and a trampoline and ‘pool’ outside.

Activities that may be popular included:

  • Mother/Father and toddler groups
  • Book Swaps
  • Tool Library
  • Community Film Nights
  • Birthday Parties
  • Fundraising events
  • Christmas Fair.
